Volunteering at the Museum

Volunteerism is an integral part of operations at the Age of Steam Museum. The Museum depends on its volunteers to help lead guided tours of the exhibits, serve as docents and assist in preserving and restore the equipment, and support the museum's staff.

While some volunteers have worked for railroads, most have not . Some have skills such as woodworking or in other crafts, as a machinist, mechanic or electrician but all of us learn on the job. All that is required is a desire to make a positive contribution.

If you'd like to join us, ask any of our staff or volunteers about opportunities. Our volunteer handbook, available at the museum, will also have answers to many of your questions. Orientation sessions are offered for new volunteers on a regular basis.

Your help, your time, your energy, and your ideas are needed to preserve and restore our collection and to help our visitors make the very most of their visits. If you are interested, contact our volunteer coordinator via e-mail or call (972) 428-0101.
